I started my first job in plant nutrition in 1988. In the late 90’s I brokered commercial vegetable seed for a while, going to several seedsman field days. Back then I was a little shocked at how plant breeders felt genetics were the key to solving all plant production, woes. What I found is that plant nutrition had to be spliced into farming programs seamlessly. i.e. Changing multiple cultural practices simultaneously alarmed smart farmers (those who had survived over the long run by adjusting slowly). The aggressive farmers seemed to go bankrupt more rapidly by taking big risks and making fatal mistakes.
I commend you for speaking up and encourage you to keep leading by example. There’s nothing like driving the point home via out yielding hot rod varieties with cheaper, less modern genetics; which also achieve, superior quality produce.
