The species name ‘macrocarpa’ means “Big Leaf”. This is the big leaf oak.

Deep roots, Long-lived. Tolerates extremely dry desert conditions but will grow faster if given deep regularly watering and if soils are improved with the help of Soil Secrets. Grows well in most soils, including alkaline, loamy, sandy, well-drained, and clay soils.

Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) is a New Mexico Native. The species name macrocarpa means  “Big Leaf”, so this is the big leaf oak. Bur oak shows slow to moderate growth, reaching 40′-50′ tall and wide. It has deep roots and is long-lived. Grows best on regular water in well-drained soils but tolerates clay. Hardy to USDA Zone 4.
