    Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) is a New Mexico Native. The species name macrocarpa means  “Big Leaf”, so this is the big leaf oak. Bur oak shows slow to moderate growth, reaching 40′-50′ tall and wide. It has deep roots and is long-lived. Grows best on regular water in well-drained soils but tolerates clay. Hardy to USDA Zone 4.

    The Chisos Red Oak (Quercus gravesii) is a New Mexico Native with annual growth up to 4′ per year but more often, 1′ – 2′ annually. It will ultimately reach 35′ tall and 25′ wide. It has deep roots and is long-lived. The Chisos Red Oak has brilliant red-maroon fall color. Fall leaf color fades to a chocolate brown. Chocolate colored leaves hang on tree through winter. This oak is best grown with low to regular water in well-drained soils. Zone 4.
